Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Developers Apologize, Release Patch and Compensation

The launch of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has been anything but smooth, with the game facing a wave of negative user reviews and widespread criticism over its unstable pricing in various regions. Many players reported prices fluctuating, first dropping and then returning to their original, higher points. In response to these significant issues, developers Leenzee Games and publisher 505 Games have issued a joint apology, rolled out an initial performance patch, and begun the process of compensating affected players.

Addressing Launch Day Woes

On its release day, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was met with a chorus of complaints. The development team openly acknowledged several critical problems that marred the title’s debut, including poor optimization, errors in distributing pre-order rewards, and the aforementioned "pricing anomalies." In their public statement, the companies conveyed their regret, stating, "Such problems should not have occurred, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience some players have faced."

To make amends, 505 Games and Leenzee Games have committed to providing all purchasers of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers with a digital version of the game's soundtrack. Furthermore, the issues with pricing and pre-order reward distribution have reportedly been resolved. The most pressing concern, however, remained the game's performance, which the developers have now begun to tackle directly.

Patch 1.3 Brings Initial Performance Boosts

A new update, Patch 1.3, has been released with a primary focus on improving the stability and overall performance of the Soulslike action RPG. Key improvements in this patch include:

  • Low Latency Mode can now be manually toggled within the settings menu.
  • Supersampling resolution limits have been adjusted for specific graphics card models to prevent unwanted performance drops.
  • For graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM or less, memory optimization is now applied across all texture quality settings. If a graphics card has more VRAM, this optimization mode activates only when low texture quality is selected.
  • Stuttering issues on certain hardware configurations during finishing animations have been eliminated.
  • A bug causing the game to crash during startup while displaying company logos has been fixed.
  • In Chapter Two, the number of mines and their damage output have been reduced.
  • Content delivery for both the Standard and Deluxe editions has been resolved. Players should now receive all their rightful in-game materials. Deluxe edition owners will need to log back in and collect their rewards from the donation box near the temple.

Leenzee Games has also assured players that a more substantial update for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is on the horizon, expected to be released within the next couple of days.

Looking Ahead for Players

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is currently available on PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, including Game Pass. While the game does offer Russian subtitles, its user rating on Steam remains in the "red zone" at a "Mostly Negative" 29% at the time of writing. Despite these initial hurdles, the game saw a peak concurrent player count of 131,518 on Steam within its first 24 hours.

The quick response from 505 Games and Leenzee Games, coupled with the immediate patch and promise of further improvements, indicates a commitment to refining the player experience. While the launch was undoubtedly rocky, these efforts offer a glimmer of hope that Wuchang: Fallen Feathers can overcome its initial challenges and evolve into the game players hoped for.
