MindsEye Hitman Crossover Mission Postponed
Build A Rocket Boy has announced an indefinite delay for the highly anticipated MindsEye x Hitman crossover mission. Originally slated for release in July, the special content now has no clear launch date. This news comes amidst a growing wave of dissatisfaction from the game's community, who feel that ongoing fixes are not enough and demand fresh content.
Developer Promises Continued Improvements
In an official statement, Build A Rocket Boy apologized to players for the delay, promising to share more news about the crossover "when ready." The studio confirmed that it has released three updates since MindsEye's launch, focusing on bug fixes and performance improvements across all devices. They expressed hope that players have noticed these positive changes.
Looking ahead, the developers outlined plans for two more significant updates:
- Update 4 (August - PC & Consoles): This patch will bring further performance enhancements and bug fixes. Crucially, it will also introduce a highly requested feature from the community: the ability to skip cutscenes. PC players will also see all published user-created content become instantly available in Play.MindsEye.
- Update 5 (September - PC & Consoles): The fifth update aims to deliver additional performance and gameplay improvements across all platforms, along with refinements to core game mechanics.
The studio also hinted that future updates might be less frequent but more substantial, indicating a shift in their content delivery strategy.
Community Demands More Than Just Fixes
Despite the developers' assurances, a significant portion of the MindsEye community remains frustrated. Players on platforms like Reddit and Discord are vocal about their discontent, arguing that mere fixes are insufficient without a clear roadmap for new content. Many question the value of premium passes or deluxe editions if promised content isn't delivered.
One user expressed frustration, stating, "What's the point of a premium pass or deluxe edition if we don't get the promised content?" Another added, "Of course, we want the game fixed. But we also need content, otherwise there's no point in continuing to fix it." Some players have even suggested a re-release of MindsEye as an Early Access title, drawing parallels to games like Splitgate 2. Common requests include new missions, vehicles, the ability to play as different characters, a day-night cycle, and more open-world freedom.
Player frustration has been amplified by the perceived vagueness of the developer's message, with one community member remarking, "This message doesn't say anything useful, are you kidding?"
A Rocky Start for MindsEye
MindsEye launched earlier this year to a troubled reception, with players reporting numerous issues including pervasive bugs, character model distortions, and severe frame rate drops. Prior to release, one of Build A Rocket Boy's executives controversially suggested that negative reviews might be "paid for," a sentiment that publisher IO Interactive did not endorse.
Amidst these delays and uncertainties, the game's relatively small fanbase is gradually losing interest. As one console gamer summarized on Discord, "As a console gamer, I just don't see any reason to return to this game."
The wait continues for players on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5, as they anticipate both necessary fixes and the long-delayed Hitman crossover content.
