Slay the Spire 2 Early Access Delayed to March 2026
Fans eager to delve back into the world of deck-building roguelikes will need to wait a little longer, as Mega Crit Games has announced a delay for the early access launch of Slay the Spire 2. The highly anticipated sequel, originally slated for late 2025, is now expected to arrive in March 2026.
The studio behind the acclaimed Slay the Spire shared that the decision to push back the release was made to ensure the game meets their high quality standards. Dispelling rumors, Mega Crit Games clarified that this delay is unrelated to the recent buzz around Hollow Knight: Silksong, stating that the decision was made much earlier.
In a statement, the developers explained their reasoning:
"After lengthy discussions, we've decided to move the early access release of Slay the Spire 2 to a Thursday in March 2026. We understand this isn't the news everyone was hoping for – we're just as eager to let you play! We initially aimed for late 2025 but miscalculated. We need a little more time. There's no single reason: life sometimes throws wrenches in the works (thankfully, everyone is healthy and safe), and other times we got carried away with wanting to add all sorts of cool things. Honestly, the game isn't quite up to our standards yet."
New Features Revealed: Alternative Acts
To soften the blow, Mega Crit Games offered a peek into one of the sequel's exciting new features: alternative acts. Slay the Spire 2 will offer a more non-linear progression, allowing players to choose from diverse acts, each with unique enemies and environments. For instance, players might explore 'Act 1a' set in overgrown ruins, or opt for 'Act 1b,' which leads through a swampy region into the Spire's sewers. More of these branching paths will unlock as players progress through the game.
Initially, Slay the Spire 2 will launch exclusively on PC via Steam for its early access phase. The developers plan to expand to other platforms after the game's full release. The exact duration of the early access period remains undisclosed.
While the wait for Slay the Spire 2 is now longer than anticipated, Mega Crit Games' commitment to delivering a polished, high-quality experience should reassure fans. The promise of new gameplay mechanics like alternative acts suggests a more dynamic and replayable journey, making the extra development time a worthwhile investment for the ultimate deck-building adventure.
