Octopath Traveler 0 Main Story Confirmed to Last Around 100 Hours
Fans of the popular JRPG series, Octopath Traveler, have a lot to look forward to. Following its announcement at a Nintendo Direct presentation in late July, Square Enix has now shared more details about the upcoming title, Octopath Traveler 0, including a significant reveal about its length. Developers confirm that the main story campaign for Octopath Traveler 0 will take players approximately 100 hours to complete.
These fresh insights come from Famitsu journalists who spoke with producer Hirohito Suzuki. Suzuki explained that the original plan was simply to port Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, the mobile entry in the series, to other platforms. However, over time, the team decided to greatly expand the content. This decision led to the main campaign of Octopath Traveler 0 growing by an estimated 30-40% compared to its mobile predecessor. Despite the extensive additions, the developers have focused on retaining the elements that were most praised by the audience in the original game.
Octopath Traveler 0 is set in Orsterra, the familiar world from the original Octopath Traveler. A key difference from the main numbered entries in the series is that Octopath Traveler 0 will feature a single protagonist. Players will have the freedom to create and customize their own hero, who will embark on a journey to assemble a diverse team, rebuild their hometown, and confront three primary antagonists.
These formidable foes include:
- Herminia, Master of Wealth: A greedy witch who has corrupted the city of Valor with darkness and vice. Her pursuit of a powerful ring sets in motion the tragedy that befalls the protagonist's hometown.
- Tytos, Master of Power: A "hero" who leads a gang of former criminals and rules the city of Emberglow. He is responsible for burning down the protagonist's home city.
- Auguste, Master of Glory: A renowned playwright from the city of arts, Theatropolis. He arrives in the protagonist's hometown during its tragedy, finding inspiration in the suffering of its inhabitants.
Players won't face these challenges alone; they'll gather a cast of interesting companions along the way. Some of these allies include:
- Celsus: A thief who works as a bodyguard in Valor, known for his developed knife skills and surprising piety.
- Maisie: A traveling apothecary, calm and kind-hearted, with a determined focus on healing others.
- Alexia: A scholar researching ancient civilizations' magic, seeking scientific breakthroughs alongside the protagonist.
- Viator: A noble warrior and son of a fencing instructor, searching for a specific sword as part of a family tradition.
- Ludo: A young merchant distinguished by his sharp business acumen.
Each companion brings a unique set of abilities to the party. Their presence in the protagonist's reconstructed town also provides various bonuses, such as increased defense, improved economy, and better farming capabilities.
For PC players, the system requirements have also been detailed:
