Doug Bowser to Depart Nintendo of America, Devon Pritchard Appointed Successor
Nintendo of America is set for a significant leadership change as current President Doug Bowser prepares to retire from the company on December 31, 2025. After more than a decade of dedicated service in various executive positions, Bowser will pass the torch to Devon Pritchard, a long-standing member of Nintendo's leadership team.
Bowser first took the helm as President in 2019, succeeding the beloved Reggie Fils-Aimé. His tenure saw Nintendo significantly broaden its reach across the entertainment landscape, venturing into successful theme park attractions and making a substantial impact in the film industry. Under his guidance, the animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination became one of the highest-grossing video game adaptations in history. Additionally, Bowser oversaw the continued phenomenal success of the Nintendo Switch console, which achieved record-breaking sales figures in the West during his leadership.
Reflecting on his time, Doug Bowser shared his sentiments: "One of my first video games was the arcade version of Donkey Kong. Since then, everything related to Nintendo has remained a passion for both me and my family. Leading Nintendo of America has been an honor I will cherish for life, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished, both in terms of business results and the experiences we've delivered to players."
Bowser expressed full confidence in his successor, stating, "It's time for a new generation of leaders, and Devon's track record speaks for itself. She is an outstanding leader, and her promotion is a testament to her high performance and strategic contributions to the company's development. I am absolutely confident she will lead Nintendo to even greater heights."
Devon Pritchard brings nearly 20 years of experience in the industry to her new role. In addition to becoming the President of Nintendo of America, she will also join the Nintendo of America board of directors and be appointed an Executive Officer of Nintendo Co., alongside Satoru Shibata. Shibata himself will fully transition to the American division, while retaining his current positions within the company.
Pritchard shared her excitement about the upcoming challenge: "I am honored and excited to take on this new role. Doug has been a fantastic mentor, and I look forward to continuing the work he helped to start. I will focus on continuing to surprise and delight our long-time fans, while also inviting new players into the Nintendo family with characters and worlds that can offer something for everyone."
This executive transition marks a pivotal moment for Nintendo of America, signaling continuity in its strategic direction while also ushering in new leadership to guide the company through its next phase of innovation and growth in the dynamic global gaming and entertainment market.
