Former Aeon Must Die! Developers Launch Kickstarter for IMMORTAL: And The Death That Follows
Mishura Games, an independent studio based in Estonia, has officially kicked off its Kickstarter campaign for their upcoming action roguelike, IMMORTAL: And The Death That Follows. The team aims to raise €25,000 to bring their debut title to life. As of this writing, eager players have already contributed over €8,000, with 29 days still remaining in the campaign.
Mishura Games was founded in 2020 by key creators behind Aeon Must Die! from Limestone Games. These developers famously lost the rights to their previous project during a dispute with studio management, leading them to depart before its completion. Limestone later released a stripped-down version of Aeon Must Die!, which subsequently underperformed in sales.
Dive Into the Demo and Gameplay Details
To coincide with the crowdfunding launch, Mishura Games has released a playable demo for IMMORTAL: And The Death That Follows on itch.io, allowing prospective backers to get a firsthand look at the game. This demo, version 0.0.21.17 (dated 2024) and weighing in at 13 GB, will receive updates throughout the campaign.
Mishura Games describes IMMORTAL as a “kung-fu noir prison drama inspired by Buddhist myths.” Players will forge their own unique combat style as they attempt to escape confinement, battling through hordes of enemies and deadly bosses, including the main antagonist: The Death That Follows.
The protagonist is an Immortal, meaning players won't be focused on a traditional health bar. Instead, the core gameplay revolves around balancing two distinct combat styles: the Creator and the Destroyer. If this balance is broken, the character becomes vulnerable to any damage, leading to instant death, but also gains the ability to defeat enemies with a single strike. Both styles come with their own unique sets of abilities. As players progress, they will also build relationships with other prisoners, with decisions potentially turning allies into enemies and vice versa. The game also features a cooperative mode, where one player controls the Creator form and the other takes on the Destroyer.
