The Blood of Dawnwalker Developers Confirm Compact Yet Rich RPG Experience

Developers at Rebel Wolves have shared new insights into their upcoming RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, ahead of gamescom 2025. The studio, which includes veterans from The Witcher 3, is emphasizing a focused and thoughtfully designed experience rather than a sprawling, open-world epic.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Senior Quest Designer Patryk Fijalkowski revealed that players can expect to complete the main story of The Blood of Dawnwalker in roughly 40 hours. "We didn't want to make a 400-hour open world," Fijalkowski stated, highlighting the team's commitment to content density. For Rebel Wolves, quality is taking precedence over sheer quantity, a decision that has helped them keep the project scope manageable and refined.

A Deliberate Design Philosophy

Fijalkowski stressed that meticulous planning from the outset has been crucial to making the project multifaceted. For instance, the primary storyline in The Blood of Dawnwalker is designed to be completed within approximately 30 in-game days. Furthermore, unique night quests will offer players a chance to explore a more bloodthirsty side of their character, significantly altering how certain missions unfold.

Fijalkowski explained the importance of their early conceptualization: "From the very beginning of development, we had a clear concept – and this was necessary because, for example, to create a time progression system, we needed to have the entire project outlined at an early stage. A kind of game skeleton: the number of quests, their interconnections, what can be done with them."

This foundational approach allowed the team to understand that the game's scale would be "smaller, so to speak, than a huge open world." He added, "Having such a skeleton early on gave us space to experiment, add layers, and repeatedly improve, improve, and improve again."

What This Means for Players

The Blood of Dawnwalker aims to offer a deep and engaging experience without demanding hundreds of hours of playtime. This design choice suggests a more narrative-driven and impactful adventure, where every quest and decision carries weight. Players can look forward to a finely tuned RPG on PC (Steam), Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5. While the game will not feature Russian localization, its compact yet rich design promises a memorable journey for a global audience.
