CD Projekt Reports Strong Half-Year Performance, Cyberpunk 2077 Shines on Switch 2

CD Projekt, the acclaimed studio behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, has released its financial report for the first half of the fiscal year, indicating a robust period of growth. The report highlights the continued success of Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion, Phantom Liberty, as key revenue drivers, with particular attention to its strong performance on the newly launched Switch 2.

According to Piotr Nielubowicz, CD Projekt's Chief Financial Officer, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition launched on Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, and quickly became one of the platform's best-selling third-party titles. A notable statistic reveals that over 75% of all Cyberpunk 2077 copies sold on the new Nintendo console were physical editions. This success is particularly significant as the game was one of the few Switch 2 launch titles to come on actual game cartridges rather than relying on digital download codes via game key cards.

Financial Snapshot and Development Team Growth

Financially, the first half of the year saw CD Projekt's consolidated sales revenue reach 443 million Polish Zloty (approximately $121 million USD), marking a 4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Consolidated net profit stood at 155 million PLN (around $42 million USD), a 9% decrease year-over-year. The report confirms that Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty continue to be the primary contributors to the company's earnings. Additionally, Cyberpunk 2077 recently expanded its reach to Mac platforms.

As of June 30, the CD Projekt Group employed 1,248 individuals, with 802 of those being developers. The vast majority, 92%, work for CD Projekt RED, while the remaining 8% are part of GOG.com. Looking specifically at CD Projekt RED's developer allocation as of July 31, 2025, the studio's development teams have expanded significantly, increasing by 9.5% since April 2025 to a total of 799 developers. All project teams have seen growth to varying degrees:

  • Project Orion (Cyberpunk 2077 sequel): The team saw the most substantial growth, expanding by approximately 20% to 116 developers. This highly anticipated sequel is currently in pre-production.
  • The Witcher IV: 444 developers are currently working on the next main installment of The Witcher series.
  • Sirius (Witcher spin-off): 51 developers are assigned to this spin-off project.
  • Hadar (New IP): 22 developers are dedicated to CD Projekt's brand-new franchise.
  • Support Services: 149 employees are involved in various support roles such as localization, artificial intelligence, and quality assurance.
  • Other Projects: 17 CD Projekt employees, alongside an unspecified number of external developers, are working on other undisclosed projects. This includes the remake of the first The Witcher game, a mobile project based on one of their franchises in partnership with Scopely, and several other unannounced titles.

The robust performance of Cyberpunk 2077, particularly its physical sales strength on the new Switch 2, not only solidifies its market presence but also provides a strong foundation for CD Projekt's ambitious future pipeline. With significant team expansions across its major projects, including the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and The Witcher IV, players can anticipate a steady stream of high-quality titles from the developer in the years to come.
