Get Ready for Uyan, Overwatch 2's Newest Support
Blizzard is gearing up for the release of a brand-new character in Overwatch 2. This new addition is a support hero named Uyan, who was known by the codename "Aqua" during development. This codename proved to be highly descriptive, as Uyan possesses the remarkable ability to manipulate water. Players can see his unique skills in action through his recently released gameplay trailer.
Uyan's Lore and Abilities Revealed
Uyan is a student at China's Wuxing University, an institution where faculties are dedicated to various natural elements: water, fire, metal, earth, and wood. Students of the Water faculty focus on medical studies, which naturally aligns Uyan with a support role. Interestingly, all other members of his family studied at the Fire faculty, which specializes in martial arts.
To uphold his family's reputation, Uyan learned to apply his water abilities in combat. He even managed to save his sister, who he constantly felt overshadowed by, during a battle against invading synthetic Omnics. This act earned him significant respect, changing his previous feelings of shame for breaking family tradition.
Based on the trailer, Uyan is a highly mobile character whose abilities include both healing and defensive capabilities. Developers have already detailed his complete kit:
- Basic Attack: Fires a water sphere whose trajectory can be controlled.
- Alternate Fire (Right-Click): Applies a passive healing stream to an ally. Holding the ability on a target increases the healing rate.
- Mobility: Uyan can ride on water to move faster (a 60% speed buff) and jump higher.
- Protective Wave: This ability increases the healing volume for all allies and knocks back enemies.
- Ultimate Ability: Protects an ally or Uyan himself with a water barrier that explodes after a short duration. The explosion stuns enemies and restores health to the target.
When Can You Play Uyan?
Uyan will be the 44th character to join the Overwatch 2 roster and is set to arrive in the game with the start of Season 18 on August 26. For players eager to try out the water hero's unique playstyle early, a trial period will be held from August 14 to August 18. This addition promises to shake up the support meta and offer new strategic options for teams.
