Larger Maps Confirmed for Battlefield 6 Beyond Beta
Players diving into the Battlefield 6 beta have primarily experienced smaller, more confined maps designed for close-quarters combat. While this approach has delighted some, allowing for intense, high-action engagements, it has also left many longing for the expansive battlegrounds traditionally associated with the Battlefield series.
Addressing these concerns, David Sirland, a producer at DICE, has clarified that the smaller maps in the beta were a deliberate choice. Sirland explained that these particular maps were selected to rigorously test the game's high-octane, fast-paced mechanics and to demonstrate the game's ability to handle intense, full-throttle action. “Speed is a factor of map size. We picked these maps to make sure we hit the full-octane version of Battlefield on the head - and made everyone see we can handle that too. Large maps exist, and the tempo scales accordingly, you'll be able to see soon enough!” Sirland posted in response to player feedback.
Players eager for grander battlefields can rest assured. Beyond the content featured in the current beta, five additional maps are slated to arrive with the full game launch. The second phase of the Battlefield 6 beta test is currently underway, allowing players to continue exploring content from the previous beta alongside new additions. This phase introduces the new 'Empire State' map set in New York City, along with modes like Assault and Team Deathmatch. The beta is set to conclude on August 18 at 8:00 AM UTC (11:00 AM Moscow time).
Battlefield 6 is scheduled to release on October 10. The game will be available on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While the beta provided a glimpse into the game's combat intensity, the full release promises to expand the scope significantly with more diverse map sizes, catering to all types of Battlefield players who enjoy both close-quarters skirmishes and large-scale warfare.
