Capcom Confirms Pragmata Is Not a Secret Mega Man Game

Capcom Debunks Pragmata-Mega Man Crossover Rumors

Capcom has officially shut down speculation that its upcoming sci-fi action title, Pragmata, is secretly connected to the beloved Mega Man series. This confirmation comes after months of fan theories suggesting a hidden link between the two franchises.

Rumors began circulating earlier this year when players started noticing intriguing similarities. Many pointed out the resemblance between Pragmata's android girl, Diana, and Capcom's iconic blue bomber. Further fuel was added to the fire by perceived shared themes, such as a moon base, infected machines, and a mysterious virus – all elements present in various Mega Man titles.

However, Pragmata's producer, Naoto Oyama, has now put these theories to rest. Speaking with VGC, Oyama clarified the game's identity directly. "Pragmata is not Mega Man. It is a completely new game from Capcom," he stated, emphasizing the original nature of the title.

Oyama also mentioned his personal connection to the Mega Man franchise, having worked on the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection. He expressed his pleasure at seeing fans of the classic series take an interest in Pragmata, noting that the positive reaction only heightens excitement for the new project.

Despite the separation of Pragmata from Mega Man, Capcom has not forgotten its long-running hero. The company stated earlier this summer that it is actively exploring ways to bring the series back. The last mainline installment, Mega Man 11, was released in 2018, following an eight-year hiatus after Mega Man 10, indicating Capcom's careful approach to the franchise's future.

Pragmata itself was first announced in 2020 but has faced multiple delays since its reveal. The game is currently slated for a 2026 release on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. Capcom has also promised full Russian localization for the game.

For players eagerly awaiting a new Mega Man adventure, Pragmata will stand on its own as a fresh sci-fi experience. While the connection may not be what some fans hoped for, the confirmation allows Pragmata to forge its own path as a brand-new IP within Capcom’s diverse portfolio, with Mega Man’s future still a separate, ongoing conversation.
