DICE Confirms AI Bots for Battlefield 6 Multiplayer
DICE has revealed that AI bots will be utilized in Battlefield 6 to populate multiplayer servers when there aren't enough human players available. This news comes from Jac Carlsson, a game designer at DICE, who shared insights during a special event held in Hong Kong. Carlsson emphasized that while bots will play a role, the primary goal for the developers is always to ensure servers are filled with as many live players as possible.
According to Carlsson, the system will only deploy AI-controlled combatants as a last resort. If a match requires more participants to start and the system detects a shortage of human players, a certain number of bots will be added to ensure the game can proceed. The specific skill level or behavior patterns of these AI soldiers were not detailed at the event.
How Bots Will Enhance Gameplay and Practice
Beyond filling regular multiplayer lobbies, Carlsson also mentioned that bots will be available for use in custom game modes through the game's ‘Portal’ feature. This functionality is designed to help players get accustomed to the game's mechanics, maps, and weapons in a less competitive environment, providing a valuable training ground before jumping into full player-versus-player battles.
Additional Insights from DICE
During the same Hong Kong event, several other interesting details about Battlefield 6 were shared, giving players a clearer picture of what to expect from the upcoming title:
- Battlefield 6 is set to receive regular quarterly updates, indicating a commitment to ongoing post-launch support and content.
- Combat zones will be individually tailored for each map, specifically chosen and optimized to enhance gameplay flow and experience.
- The shooting system in Battlefield 6 is described as the “most thought-out and advanced in the series,” promising a refined and immersive combat feel.
- While destruction remains a core element, it won't be possible to level an entire map. Instead, the focus is on creating "interesting, gameplay-stimulating destruction effects" that primarily lead to "engaging environmental changes," suggesting tactical destruction rather than total obliteration.
Release Information and Beta Testing
Battlefield 6 is scheduled for release on October 10, 2025. It will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It was also noted that the game will not include Russian language localization and will not be available in the Russian region.
Before the official launch, beta testing periods were announced. A closed beta was set to run from August 7th to 8th, followed by open beta tests from August 9th to 10th and then again from August 14th to 17th. These tests aimed to gather crucial feedback and stress-test the game's systems ahead of its full release.
The integration of AI bots ensures that Battlefield 6 players should consistently find matches, even during off-peak hours, providing a more reliable and less frustrating multiplayer experience. Combined with refined gunplay and dynamic destruction, these features aim to deliver a robust and engaging entry into the long-running franchise.
