Battlefield 2042 Drops Major Update with Iwo Jima, New Weapons, and Free Battle Pass
DICE has surprised Battlefield 2042 players with an unexpected and substantial update, version 9.2.0, now available across all platforms. Far more than just a collection of bug fixes, this patch introduces a new map, fresh weapons, additional vehicles, and even a free Battle Pass that ties into the upcoming Battlefield 6.
The Return of Iwo Jima
The standout addition in this update is the legendary map, Iwo Jima. Fans will recognize this iconic location from past titles like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 1943, and Battlefield V. In Battlefield 2042, Iwo Jima gets a modern twist with an active volcano adding a dynamic element to the battlefield. Players can expect diverse combat scenarios, including naval landings from boats, close-quarters fights in bunkers, and intense trench warfare.
New Arsenal Additions
The weapon roster expands with two new firearms:
- KFS2000: A bullpup assault rifle designed for stable recoil and versatility, making it a reliable choice for various engagements.
- Lynx: A semi-automatic sniper rifle that will be familiar to those who participated in the Battlefield 6 beta. This powerful rifle can penetrate vehicle armor and destroy enemy cover. Beta participants will receive the Lynx for free, while other players will need to unlock it through gameplay.
Reinforcements from the Skies
Two iconic attack aircraft, the A10 Warthog and the SU-25TM Frogfoot, are making their way from Battlefield Portal into the main All-Out Warfare mode. Developers have re-tuned their abilities, enhancing their roles as formidable 'armor hunters' on the battlefield.
A Free Battle Pass with a Nod to the Past
From August 18 to October 7, players can dive into a free 60-level Battle Pass. This pass celebrates the rich history of the Battlefield series, offering rewards inspired by fan-favorite titles such as Battlefield 1, Battlefield V, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, and Battlefield 4. The pass includes over 50 customization items and 30 exclusive bonuses for Battlefield 6, which can be claimed at levels 8, 19, 30, 40, 49, and 60.
Community Events and Art Series
Beyond the new content, the update also kicks off the 'Best of Portal' event, running from September 2 to September 30. During this event, playlists featuring the best community-created modes in the Portal editor will refresh every 48 hours, offering new rewards for participants.
Additionally, the 'Community Art Series' has launched, turning artwork from talented community artists into in-game player cards. The debut series draws inspiration from the beloved 'Battlefield Friends' web series, capturing its spirit of camaraderie and humor. Artist Pericote9 is behind this initial collection, with their works now available in the game.
Balance Changes and Bug Fixes
This update also brings significant balance adjustments for weapons and vehicles, alongside numerous bug fixes. Weapon visual glitches involving magazines, lasers, and underbarrel attachments have been resolved. Descriptions and UI indicators for modifications have been updated. The NTW-50 sniper rifle now deals increased damage to light vehicles and gadgets, while bugs affecting scopes and magazines on the AN-94, GOL Magnum, and AK5C have been squashed. The Arcom Tactical muzzle brake, which previously obstructed view, has been re-enabled, and laser inconsistencies for the PP-2000 and MP443 have been fixed.
Mode-specific fixes include preventing character changes after a round starts in Outbreak and correcting icon display issues in Frontlines. The user interface sees improved readability for gamepad hints and a final developer credit roll added to the game. For vehicles, skins and animations now function correctly. The new A10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot aircraft feature introductory scenes and additional tips. Their cameras have been improved, secondary weapons added, and overall handling and weapon balance reworked.
Regarding overall aircraft balance, the role of fighter jets against ground targets has been reduced, with cuts to ammunition and rocket damage. However, their effectiveness in air-to-air engagements has been boosted. The XFAD-4 Draugr's JDAM and napalm bombs have been weakened, with their radius and damage significantly decreased.
Players can dive into this fresh Battlefield 2042 update and begin their 'road to Battlefield 6' journey on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox, and PlayStation.
