Baby Steps and Little Witch in the Woods Delay Releases Ahead of Silksong

Indie Games Continue to Shift Release Dates to Avoid Hollow Knight: Silksong

The highly anticipated release of Hollow Knight: Silksong is proving to be such a monumental event that other game developers are continuing to adjust their launch schedules to avoid direct competition. What started with titles like the roguelike CloverPit and the Metroidvania Aeterna Lucis, and later included the JRPG Demonschool, now sees the humorous adventure Baby Steps and the cozy simulation Little Witch in the Woods joining the growing list of games delaying their releases.

Baby Steps, an action-adventure title, has moved its launch date from September 8th to September 23rd. Similarly, Little Witch in the Woods, a charming life simulation RPG, has shifted its full 1.0 release from September 4th to September 15th. The reason behind these delays is consistently cited as the immense presence and anticipated impact of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Developers are understandably wary of launching their projects on the same day as such a prominent title, choosing to safeguard their potential audience rather than risking being overshadowed.

To announce its delay, the team behind Baby Steps released a lighthearted teaser video. It humorously depicts the game's clumsy protagonist precariously balanced on a statue of Hornet, the lead character from Silksong, visually representing the challenge of competing with the upcoming game.

Meanwhile, the developers of Little Witch in the Woods, Sunny Side Up, issued a comprehensive statement to their community regarding their decision:

"Hello everyone. This is the Sunny Side Up team.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you for your patience while waiting for the full release of Little Witch in the Woods. The development of the full version took longer than anticipated, and we completely understand your concerns and fatigue.

Over the past few years, we have poured an enormous amount of time and effort into creating this game. It is your faith in us, your support during Early Access, and your help in every aspect that allowed us to get this far. We recently announced the release date for version 1.0, but soon after our announcement, we learned that the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also coming out on the very same day.

Silksong is a game we ourselves eagerly await, not only as developers but also as players. Given the huge impact of this title, we are concerned that launching Little Witch in the Woods on the same day would result in unsatisfactory outcomes, not only for our team but for our audience.

Taking everything into account, we have decided to postpone the full version's release to September 15th. We sincerely apologize for the delay. As a token of our respect for your patience and support, we promise to continue working on polishing the game to present Little Witch in the Woods in perfect condition."

The wave of delays underscores the incredible anticipation surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong. For players, these shifts mean a slightly longer wait for these individual titles but ensure they will launch into a less crowded window, potentially allowing them to receive the attention they deserve. Baby Steps is slated for PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5, while Little Witch in the Woods will be available on PC (Steam) and Xbox.
