Survival Climbing Game Cairn Delayed to Early 2026

Fans eagerly awaiting Cairn, the unique climbing simulator with survival elements, will need to adjust their calendars. Developer The Game Bakers has announced that the game, originally slated for release as early as next month, has been pushed back. The new launch window for Cairn is now set for the first quarter of 2026.

The studio explained that while all planned content for the game is already in place, the additional development time will be dedicated to crucial optimization, polish, and bug fixing. This commitment to quality was highlighted by Emeric Thoa, the creative director at The Game Bakers.

“We’ve conducted numerous playtests, and player feedback confirms that Cairn is truly special,” Thoa stated. “At the same time, we clearly see what improvements can still be made to make the title truly unforgettable. After five years of work, there’s no sense in rushing – we want to be proud of the game we release.” This decision, while delaying the immediate gratification of players, often results in a significantly more refined and enjoyable experience at launch.

However, it’s not all waiting game news. To tide players over, The Game Bakers has a positive update: a demo for Cairn will receive an update on October 13th. For a limited time, this demo will allow players to see "ghosts" of other climbers on the mountain. This innovative feature will let players observe how others tackle ascents, discover new routes, learn fresh techniques, and even engage in friendly competition as they climb alongside these spectral companions.

Cairn tells the story of Aava, an alpinist driven by her dream to conquer the formidable, inaccessible Mount Kami. Players will guide Aava, needing to meticulously find footholds, maintain delicate balance, and carefully manage her stamina during the challenging ascent. The game promises a deep, immersive climbing experience.

When it does arrive, Cairn will be available on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. The developers have also confirmed that the game will include Russian subtitles, ensuring broader accessibility for a global audience.

While the wait for Cairn just got longer, The Game Bakers' dedication to delivering a highly polished experience bodes well for the final product. The upcoming demo update, offering a sneak peek and unique social climbing elements, should provide an exciting taste of what’s to come.
