Get Ready for GNAW: A New Metroidvania Adventure
Game studio Redstart Interactive has officially announced GNAW, a brand-new 2D Metroidvania title that puts players in control of a powerful dinosaur hero. Set to launch on PC and consoles in 2026, the game promises a unique blend of fast-paced combat and deep lore in a world teetering on the edge of disaster.
According to Jon Lawitts from Redstart Interactive, GNAW combines “dynamic combat reminiscent of 90s classics with rich lore where society balances on the brink of chaos.” Players will step into the scales of Mac Ripley, a deinonychus, as he journeys through seven distinct regions. His mission? To fight mutated creatures and the results of failed scientific experiments plaguing the land.
A Dino Metropolis in Peril
The heart of GNAW’s story is New Dino, a sprawling metropolis where various dinosaur species live side-by-side. When the established order crumbles, Mac finds himself embroiled in a series of mysterious events. He must uncover the truth to prevent the collapse of his civilization.
A strange scientific incident grants Mac Ripley supernatural abilities, transforming him into an even more formidable force. These powers allow him to bite and gnaw at enemies with remarkable effectiveness. Players can also develop their own fighting style, choosing to stalk enemies stealthily, attack from a distance, or combine various tactics for a truly unique combat experience.
Deep Gameplay and Expansive World
GNAW is set to offer a robust gameplay experience with 16 unique abilities for players to master, dozens of interconnected locations to explore, and over 150 types of enemies. These foes range from common street mutants to monstrous, challenging bosses. Each district of New Dino hides its own stories, dangers, and unexpected characters, complete with strange water, mysterious alleys, and rumors of alligators lurking in the sewers.
When GNAW releases in 2026, players will be able to embody Mac Ripley on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch. The game will also include full Russian localization, ensuring a broader audience can enjoy its dinosaur-filled adventure.
