New Cast Members Announced for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil Film

New Faces Join the Resident Evil Film Adaptation

Details continue to emerge regarding Zach Cregger’s upcoming film adaptation of the beloved survival horror series, Resident Evil. The Hollywood Reporter has recently revealed additional cast members set to join the project, further shaping the ensemble for this highly anticipated movie.

These new additions will be joining previously announced actors Austin Abrams (known for “Euphoria”) and Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”). The latest names entering the Resident Evil universe are:

  • Zach Cherry: Best known for his role in “Severance,” Cherry will portray a hospital scientist.
  • Kali Reis: An Emmy-nominated actress from “True Detective,” Reis is cast in an initially male role as a former military member.
  • Johnno Wilson: From “Twisted Metal,” Wilson's specific character role remains undisclosed at this time.

Notably, both Zach Cherry and Kali Reis bring significant recognition to the cast, having received Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively. Their involvement suggests a strong focus on character depth within the film.

Production Details and Plot Hints

Filming for the movie is slated to begin in mid-October in Prague, indicating that pre-production is well underway. While a full synopsis has yet to be officially released, insider Daniel Richtman has offered a glimpse into the plot. According to his reports, the film will center on Austin Abrams' character, Brian, a hapless courier who finds himself in Raccoon City during a delivery of a mysterious package, placing him right in the heart of the impending chaos.

Director Zach Cregger has previously stated that audiences should not expect a direct adaptation of familiar game characters or storylines. He believes the game's narratives are self-sufficient, hinting that his film will offer a fresh, new perspective within the Resident Evil universe rather than a retelling of existing lore.

The film is being produced in collaboration with PlayStation Productions, Vertigo Entertainment, and Constantin Film, with Sony Pictures handling distribution. Fans can mark their calendars for the premiere, which is currently scheduled for September 18, 2026.

This new casting information, combined with the director's vision for an original story, suggests that the upcoming Resident Evil film aims to carve out its own path. Instead of leaning on established game heroes, it looks set to introduce viewers to new characters and an unfolding narrative, potentially offering a different kind of horror experience for both long-time fans and newcomers to the franchise.
