Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 Offers About 40 Hours of Gameplay, Fabien's Story Deepened
Fans eager for the upcoming release of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 now have a clearer picture of its scale and narrative depth. During gamescom 2025, developers from The Chinese Room spoke with Wccftech, revealing that players can expect to spend roughly 40 hours completing the full game, including all side quests and activities. The main story campaign itself is estimated to take between 20 to 25 hours to finish.
This playtime estimate represents a slight adjustment from earlier plans. In 2019, the game's previous developers, Hardsuit Labs, had suggested a main story length of 25-30 hours. While the core narrative might be a bit more focused now, the overall experience still promises a substantial adventure in the dark world of vampires.
Fabien's Journey Expands with a Richer Backstory
One of the most intriguing reveals from the interview centers on Fabien, a key character who mysteriously finds himself trapped within the protagonist's mind. Design Director Jey Hicks confirmed that Fabien's role has been significantly expanded and reworked over the last two years. Originally, Fabien was not even intended to be a playable character, but a bold creative decision changed his destiny.
Narrative Director Ian Thomas elaborated on this evolution, explaining how the team sought to integrate the Malkavian clan and additional storylines. "We had a lot of additional storylines that we wanted to do, and we also wanted to do Malkavian," Thomas shared. The breakthrough came when the team considered making the 'stuck-in-the-head' character a Malkavian. "Suddenly, it worked, and we realized that an elder vampire, who perhaps has lost humanity to a large extent and doesn’t quite connect with mortals, would contrast perfectly with Fabien, who is charmed by humans and is truly interested in how the world works," Thomas added.
This creative pivot breathed new life into Fabien, giving him a much richer history. Players will even get to explore sections of his story set in the 1920s, offering a unique perspective on the character and the world. Thomas noted that this "late and bold decision" was fortunately approved by Paradox, the publisher, who recognized its value in enhancing the game's narrative. This commitment to refining the story suggests a deeper, more engaging experience for players.
