Unseen Gameplay Footage of Canceled Prey 2 Leaks Online

Years after its planned release, a significant collection of gameplay footage from the canceled Prey 2 has surfaced online. This never-before-seen material offers fans a unique look at the ambitious project from Human Head Studios that was ultimately shelved by Bethesda.

The leaked videos were shared by former Human Head Studios developer David Halsted, who now works at ZeniMax Online Studios. The collection includes five distinct clips, featuring early prototype scenes, cinematic cutscenes, and most notably, a comprehensive nine-minute demonstration of the game's core gameplay. This extensive footage provides the clearest picture yet of what Prey 2 could have been if development had continued.

The Lost Vision of Prey 2

The original Prey, released in 2006, was a notable first-person shooter known for its unique portal mechanics and compelling narrative. Its sequel, Prey 2, aimed to take the series in a dramatically different direction. It was envisioned as a sprawling open-world adventure where players would step into the shoes of a bounty hunter on an alien planet.

However, despite its promising concept, Bethesda officially canceled the project in 2014. At the time, Pete Hines, then Vice President of PR and Marketing for Bethesda, stated that the game was not meeting the publisher's quality expectations and lacked a clear path to success. This decision left many fans of the original game disappointed, as they eagerly awaited a new take on the Prey universe.

A Different Future: The 2017 Prey Reboot

Instead of continuing with Human Head's vision, Bethesda opted for a full reboot of the Prey series. Three years later, Arkane Studios released their version of Prey in 2017. This critically acclaimed title was a complete departure from the canceled sequel's open-world bounty hunter concept, instead presenting an atmospheric survival horror experience with strong immersive sim elements set aboard the Talos I space station.

The emergence of this lost gameplay footage for the Human Head Studios version of Prey 2 is a fascinating peek into an alternate timeline for the series. It allows players to finally witness the game that might have been, offering closure and sparking renewed conversations about one of gaming's most intriguing canceled projects.
