The Lift: Sci-Fi Repair Simulator Announced by Pathologic 2 and Ori Devs

New Sci-Fi Repair Simulator, The Lift, Revealed by Fantastic Signals

Publisher tinyBuild and the newly formed studio Fantastic Signals have announced their upcoming title, The Lift. Comprised of veteran developers who previously worked on critically acclaimed games like Pathologic 2 and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Fantastic Signals is bringing a first-person, story-driven repair simulator set in a compelling science fiction universe.

In The Lift, players step into the shoes of a skilled technician tasked with the ambitious job of restoring a massive research complex. This facility was abandoned following a mysterious catastrophe. Your mission is to systematically bring each floor back online, piece by piece, as you slowly uncover the truth behind what went wrong within the Institute.

Gameplay and Unique Features

The game promises a rich blend of systemic repair gameplay, an innovative electrical circuit assembly mechanic, a deep narrative, and an interactive world begging to be explored. Players will tackle a wide array of tasks, ranging from simple furniture fixes to intricate repairs of complex electrical devices. The Institute is not entirely deserted; you'll encounter other characters and complete their requests, adding depth to the experience. Your mobile base throughout this adventure is, fittingly, a lift.

Fantastic Signals notes that the team is drawing upon their experience from Pathologic 2 to weave immersive sim elements into The Lift. They aim to introduce several unique innovations to the 'jack-of-all-trades' repair game genre, which typically focuses solely on fixing, renovating, and cleaning.

One such innovation involves using complex electrical engineering concepts for repairing and operating sophisticated electromechanical devices. Ivan Slovtsov, the founder of Fantastic Signals and Game Director for The Lift, also revealed that the game's world-building takes inspiration from the works of the Strugatsky Brothers and the SCP Foundation, hinting at a deep and perhaps unsettling atmosphere.

“I’m really excited to finally show what we’ve been working on for the past three years, and I look forward to fans’ reactions to the first Steam playtest. The Lift includes everything we love – amazing worlds, rich narrative, and engaging systemic gameplay.” – Ivan Slovtsov

Release Details and Early Access

The Lift is slated for release on PC via Steam in 2026, with Russian text localization available at launch. The developers also have plans to bring the project to consoles at a later date. PC players interested in getting an early look can request access to a limited-time playtest currently available through the game’s Steam store page.

This announcement suggests that The Lift will offer more than just typical repair tasks, providing a narrative-rich, mechanically deep experience for players who enjoy puzzles and exploration within a unique sci-fi setting. The involvement of developers from such acclaimed titles as Pathologic 2 and Ori and the Will of the Wisps sets a high expectation for both its storytelling and gameplay quality.
