Rematch Cross-Play Patch Faces Another Delay
Fans of Sloclap’s arcade football game, Rematch, will have to wait a little longer for the highly anticipated cross-play feature. Originally slated to arrive with Patch 3 on September 4th, the update has been delayed once more due to a significant matchmaking problem discovered during final testing.
The developers at Sloclap shared the unfortunate news, explaining that a “major matchmaking issue linked to Crossplay” was identified just hours before the planned release. Cross-play is a core component of Patch 3, making its implementation without a stable matchmaking system impossible. This marks another setback for a feature players have been eagerly awaiting since the game's launch.
“During our final tests today, we found a major matchmaking issue linked to Crossplay. Since Crossplay is the heart of Patch 3, we’ve decided to delay the release while we fix it. We know this is disappointing and we’re truly sorry for the repeated delays. Thank you for your…” — Rematch (@PlayRematch) September 4, 2025
Sloclap elaborated on the specific nature of the bug. During an internal test conducted in Paris, a new problem arose that was not present during the beta tests just last week. With cross-play enabled, a notable number of testers became stuck in the match search queue, unable to cancel or restart the process. Releasing the patch with such a critical flaw would undoubtedly lead to a frustrating experience for players.
The studio has expressed its apologies for the repeated delays and assured players that they are working hard to resolve the issue. They also committed to improving their development workflow for future updates. Crucially, Sloclap stated they will refrain from announcing specific release dates for patches until they are absolutely confident they can deliver on time. This change in strategy aims to prevent further disappointment and ensure a higher quality of future updates for Rematch.
While this delay is certainly disappointing for the community, Sloclap's commitment to releasing a stable and functional cross-play experience is a positive sign. Players can look forward to a more robust update, even if it means waiting a little longer to team up or compete against friends on different platforms.
