Ready or Not Achieves Major Console Sales Milestone
Independent studio VOID Interactive has announced a significant sales achievement for their tactical shooter, Ready or Not. The console versions of the game have sold over 3 million copies in less than two months since their July 15th launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
This impressive console performance contributes to the game's overall sales, which now exceed 13 million units across all platforms. The PC version alone accounts for 10 million of these sales, having been available for almost four years, including its Steam Early Access period.
The console success for Ready or Not has been rapid. The game hit one million units in under four days and quickly surpassed the two-million mark within two weeks. VOID Interactive highlighted this success in a recent press release, stating, "VOID Interactive, the global independent studio, today announced that the console versions of its flagship title, Ready or Not, have surpassed 3 million copies sold since their release on July 15. Building on the rapid success, the game has now crossed the 13 million copies sold mark across all platforms, solidifying its status as one of the year’s top tactical shooters."
PC Version Faces Player Backlash Over Censorship Update
Despite this strong financial performance, the PC version of Ready or Not has recently faced a notable setback in its reputation. This is largely due to a controversial censorship update that was released to coincide with the console launch.
The update led to an intense wave of negative user reviews on Steam, causing the game's overall rating to drop to 76%. Players expressed significant frustration not only with the content changes imposed by the censorship but also with various technical issues, including graphical glitches, AI problems, and game crashes. Developers had previously commented on the challenges of publishing in a global market, indicating that such content adjustments were a 'reality' of the game's distribution.
For players, this news presents a mixed picture. While the robust console sales demonstrate a strong demand and positive reception for the game on new platforms, the ongoing issues and content changes affecting the PC version suggest that VOID Interactive still has work to do to satisfy its entire player base. The studio will need to address player concerns on PC while continuing to support the growing console community.
