Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Attracts Over 3 Million Players

Ubisoft has announced that its critically acclaimed metroidvania title, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, has now been played by over three million gamers since its release. This significant milestone highlights the game's growing popularity and broad appeal across various platforms.

The developers shared their enthusiasm, stating, "Over 3 million Immortals have embarked on this epic journey through Mount Qaf. From every leap over deadly traps to every perfect parry—your mastery has brought Sargon's adventure to life. Thank you for being part of the Prince of Persia legend."

This achievement follows a previous milestone in April, when the game had reached two million players, coinciding with its launch on mobile platforms. It's important to note that the player count does not directly equate to copies sold, as Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown was included in the PlayStation Plus catalog in March, making it accessible to a wider audience without a direct purchase.

Despite the robust player numbers and positive reception, the game's journey has been bittersweet. Since its release early last year, it has garnered over four thousand "Very Positive" reviews on Steam and earned a "Commendable" rating on StopGame.ru. However, despite this warm critical and player reception, the title reportedly did not meet Ubisoft's financial expectations.

As a result, Ubisoft made the difficult decision to disband the game's development team and has not greenlit a sequel. This news comes as a disappointment to many fans who enjoyed the fresh take on the classic Prince of Persia formula.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is currently available on PC (via Steam, Ubisoft Store, and Epic Games Store), PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android devices, offering text localization in various languages, including Russian.

For players, this milestone signifies the game's undeniable quality and engagement, even if the commercial outcome led to an unfortunate conclusion for its development team. It remains a testament to what a well-crafted metroidvania can achieve in terms of player enjoyment and critical praise.
