New Battlefield 6 Trailer Appears to Troll Call of Duty, Fans React
EA has just released a new live-action trailer for Battlefield 6, and the internet is buzzing with speculation that it contains a subtle, yet hilarious, jab at rival franchise Call of Duty from Activision. The video kicks off with a star-studded lineup of celebrities, including actor Zac Efron, NBA player Jimmy Butler, country musician Morgan Wallen, and MMA fighter Paddy Pimblett. However, their glamorous appearance is cut short mere seconds later by a sudden missile strike.
Following the explosion, a squad of battle-hardened marines takes center stage, ready for action. "Who was that?" one soldier asks, to which another replies, "Doesn't matter, move out." The trailer then transitions into classic Battlefield gameplay, showcasing the squad strategizing an attack, destroying a tank, and collapsing a building—a clear return to the franchise's roots.
Fans React to the 'CoD Diss'
Social media erupted almost immediately after the trailer's release. Fans quickly picked up on what they perceived as a direct dig at Call of Duty's frequent use of celebrity cameos. One user wrote, "Starting off with a celeb cast only to blow them away and to show off realistic soldiers instead is the greatest CoD diss I’ve seen." Another simply added, "The CoD roast at the beginning is pure gold xD."
While Call of Duty is not explicitly named in the trailer, the implied mockery is evident. Activision has a long history of integrating celebrities and crossover characters into its trailers and games, a practice that has often divided its community. Past collaborations have included Nicki Minaj, Snoop Dogg, comedian Seth Rogen, and even characters from 'The Boys' and 'Beavis and Butt-Head'. Many players feel these additions detract from the game's core setting, transforming it into a jumbled collection of unrelated characters from various universes.
A Return to Authenticity for Battlefield
This trailer seems to align with previous statements from DICE producer Alexia Christofi, who has emphasized the studio's commitment to making Battlefield 6 a more "grounded" and authentic experience. While players will still have options for self-expression through skins and customization, the goal is for these elements to fit organically within the game's established setting.
Players looking forward to a more grounded Battlefield 6 can expect to play it on PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
