Lenovo Unveils Next-Generation Legion Go 2 Handheld PC

Lenovo has officially announced the Legion Go 2, the highly anticipated successor to its 2023 portable gaming PC. First showcased as a prototype at CES 2025, the new device is set to hit shelves later this year, with the base model priced at $1,100.

Enhanced Display and Powerful Performance

The Legion Go 2 maintains its predecessor's expansive 8.8-inch screen size but boasts a significant upgrade: an OLED panel. While the resolution is slightly lower at 1920x1200 compared to the original's 2560x1600, the OLED technology promises incredibly vibrant colors and deeper blacks. Combined with a fast 144Hz refresh rate, players can expect fluid and immersive visuals.

Under the hood, the device will offer two powerful AMD Ryzen Z2 processor options. The standard Z2 uses the Zen4 architecture, while the Z2 Extreme variant steps up to the newer Zen5 architecture. Both processors feature eight cores and 16 threads, ensuring robust performance for a wide range of games. The Legion Go 2 supports up to 32GB of LP5X-8000 memory and comes with an integrated AMD Radeon 890M graphics card. A major improvement is the battery, which has nearly doubled in capacity to 74 watt-hours, promising significantly extended playtime on the go.

Improved Controllers and Ergonomics

Lenovo has kept the popular detachable controllers from the original Legion Go but has refined them for the new model. The TrueStrike controllers now feature a more comfortable ergonomic shape and a revised button layout. A standout feature is the new 'FPS mode,' which transforms the right controller into a vertical mouse, offering more natural and precise aiming in first-person shooter games. Both joysticks are equipped with Hall effect sensors, ensuring drift-free precision and responsiveness. Users will be pleased to know that these new controllers are also compatible with the first-generation Legion Go.

Connectivity and Design Details

The console offers modern connectivity options, including two USB4 ports, a standard headphone/microphone jack, and a MicroSD card slot for expandable storage. Wireless capabilities include Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E 2x2AX, ensuring fast and reliable connections. The device starts at a weight of 920 grams, making it a substantial but portable gaming companion.

Pricing and Configurations

The base configuration of the Legion Go 2, featuring the Z2 processor, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage, will be available for $1,099. For those seeking maximum performance, the top-tier version with the Z2 Extreme processor, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD will range from $1,350 to $1,480, depending on the specific region and retailer.

With its enhanced display, updated processors, and thoughtful controller improvements, the Legion Go 2 aims to offer a premium handheld gaming experience, providing a compelling option for PC gamers on the move.
