Doug Bowser to Depart Nintendo of America, Devon Pritchard Steps Up
Nintendo of America is set for a significant leadership change, as current President Doug Bowser has announced his retirement from the company. Bowser, who has spent over 10 years in various executive roles at Nintendo, will officially step down on December 31, 2025.
Bowser took the helm as President in 2019, succeeding the beloved Reggie Fils-Aimé. During his tenure, Nintendo significantly broadened its entertainment footprint, expanding into popular theme parks like Super Nintendo World and making notable ventures into the film industry. Under his leadership, The Super Mario Bros. Movie from Illumination became the highest-grossing video game movie adaptation at the time of its release. He also oversaw the continued success of the Nintendo Switch console in the West, which went on to become one of the fastest-selling consoles in gaming history.
Upon Bowser's departure, Nintendo of America will be led by Devon Pritchard, a long-standing member of the company's executive team with nearly two decades of experience in the industry.
Reflecting on his time, Doug Bowser shared,
“One of my first video games was the arcade version of Donkey Kong. Since then, everything related to Nintendo has remained a passion for both me and my family. Leading Nintendo of America has been an honor I will cherish for life, and I am proud of what our team has achieved, both in terms of business results and the experiences we have delivered to players.
It's time for a new generation of leaders, and Devon's track record speaks for itself. She is an outstanding leader, and her promotion is a testament to her high performance and strategic contributions to the company. I am absolutely confident that she will lead Nintendo to even greater heights.”
Devon Pritchard also expressed her enthusiasm for the new role, stating,
“I am honored and excited to take on this new role. Doug has been a fantastic mentor, and I look forward to continuing the work he helped start. I will focus on continuing to surprise and delight our long-time fans while inviting new players into the Nintendo family with characters and worlds that offer something for everyone.”
In addition to her new presidential duties, Pritchard will also join the Nintendo of America board of directors and become an Executive Officer for Nintendo Co., working alongside Satoru Shibata. Shibata will transition fully to the American division while retaining his current positions. This transition marks a new chapter for Nintendo of America, with experienced leadership poised to guide the company through its next phase of innovation and entertainment.
