Diablo 4 Season 10 "Infernal Chaos" Brings Major Boss Battle Reworks and New Content
Diablo 4 is gearing up for its tenth season, titled "Infernal Chaos," set to launch on September 23rd. This new season promises a wealth of content, including a compelling new storyline, powerful new gear, and significant overhauls to boss encounters. Players will be tasked with uncovering the source of new demonic threats in Sanctuary and harnessing the deadly "Gifts of Chaos" to empower their characters.
The Story So Far: Hunting Down Bartuk
The seasonal questline will have players investigating mysterious demons plaguing Sanctuary. They'll join forces with Shyan, an assassin from the Viz-Jaq'taar order, an organization dedicated to eradicating mages corrupted by demonic influence. Their investigation uncovers a demonic conspiracy orchestrated by the Bloodsoaked Council, aiming to revive the Lord of Chaos, Bartuk.
Bartuk himself will be the new boss in the Infernal Hordes mode. To challenge him, each party member must spend a resource called Aether. Bartuk is a formidable foe, capable of opening Chaos Portals that unleash projectiles and employing various deceptive tactics to eliminate his adversaries.
Infernal Hordes and Chaos Waves
The Infernal Hordes will see several changes in Season 10. A new feature called "Chaos Waves" will be introduced: after a special offering, a regular wave will transform into a frenzied inferno of random battles, breaking the usual rules of engagement. The Bloodsoaked Council will also be reworked, occasionally pitting players against more powerful enemies.
For those finding the standard Infernal Hordes too challenging, a simplified version called "Swift Hordes" will be available. This allows players at earlier stages of character progression to experience the mode. Swift Hordes can be attempted on any difficulty level below Torment.
Major Boss Invulnerability Phase Rework
One of the most significant changes coming in Season 10 is a complete overhaul of boss invulnerability phases across all bosses. Based on player feedback, developers have adjusted how these phases work:
- Boss invulnerability phases will now only activate 10 seconds after the start of a battle.
- When a boss's health drops to one-third, they will gain a shield for 5 seconds.
- If players manage to break this shield within the 5-second window, the invulnerability phase will be skipped entirely.
This change aims to make boss fights more engaging and rewarding for high-damage players, allowing them to potentially skip frustrating invulnerability windows through skillful play.
New Gear: Chaos Armor and Gifts of Chaos
Season 10 introduces a new type of unique armor called "Chaos Armor." These are more powerful versions of existing unique items with specific usage conditions, equipable in helmet, chest, glove, leg, and boot slots. To guarantee a Chaos Armor drop, players must defeat Bartuk on Torment III or Torment IV difficulty. On Torment I or II, the drop chance is significantly lower.
Players can also earn Seasonal Renown by defeating demons emerging from strange energy portals, typically found in Nightmare Dungeons and Helltide areas. Destroying these demons and sealing the rifts will grant "Infernal Distortion," a resource used to upgrade "Gifts of Chaos."
Gifts of Chaos are new items that modify hero abilities, enabling "truly devastating combinations." Players can equip up to three non-unique Gifts and one unique Gift. These Gifts come in four quality tiers: Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique. Magic, Rare, and Legendary Gifts enhance and alter existing skills, while Unique Gifts offer radical changes, opening up entirely new build possibilities.
Additionally, new unique items will be added, such as the "Thunderous Azurite" ring for Sorcerers. This ring magnetizes enemies for 4 seconds when struck by lightning, causing them to take 40-60% increased lightning damage. If two magnetized enemies strike each other with sparking energy charges, they will be pulled together.
These extensive changes and additions in Diablo 4's "Infernal Chaos" season promise a fresh and challenging experience for players, encouraging new build diversity and making boss encounters more dynamic and less predictable. Players can find more detailed information on all Season 10 changes on the official Diablo IV website.
