Death Stranding Anime and Live-Action Film Unveil New Details and Creative Teams

Kojima Productions Expands Death Stranding Universe with Anime and Film Adaptations

Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions have officially pulled back the curtain on their upcoming adaptations of the acclaimed game, Death Stranding. Fans can look forward to both an animated film, currently titled Death Stranding: Mosquito, which has received its first teaser trailer, and a live-action movie produced by A24.

Anime Adaptation: Death Stranding: Mosquito

The animated venture, Death Stranding: Mosquito, is being brought to life by a talented team. Hiroshi Miyamoto is directing the project, with Aaron Guzikowski, known for his work on the series Raised by Wolves and the film Prisoners, penning the script. ABC Animation Studio is at the helm of production, while Studio Easter, who contributed to the anime series Dandadan, will be crafting the film's backgrounds.

The creators are aiming for a distinct visual style that sets the anime apart from the games. Interestingly, the main character will not be Sam Porter Bridges, but an entirely new figure. This character will possess a unique ability to "suck out something truly important," though not blood, which inspired the "Mosquito" in the working title.

Live-Action Film: A New Story in the Death Stranding World

On the live-action front, director Michael Sarnoski, recognized for A Quiet Place: Day One, provided insights into the film's direction. He revealed that the movie will tell a standalone story, featuring new characters and locations within the Death Stranding universe. The team's goal is to capture the essence and themes of the game, while presenting them in a fresh narrative wrapper.

Sarnoski shared his vision, stating, "We want to fully capture the scale [of the game's world], showcase incredible, realistic locations and complex, multifaceted characters, paying attention to every detail, both on a micro and macro level."

Hideo Kojima himself elaborated on the decision to pursue a new story, explaining that he did not want to condense a 70-hour game experience into a feature film lasting only a couple of hours. While Kojima's busy schedule prevents him from directing the film personally, he confirmed his "close involvement" in the production process.

These upcoming adaptations promise to expand the rich lore of Death Stranding, offering fans new perspectives and stories within its unique and captivating world. With distinct creative approaches for both the anime and live-action film, players can look forward to seeing the beloved universe explored in exciting new ways.
