CD Projekt RED Hints at New Cyberpunk 2077 Reveal on September 4th

CD Projekt RED is once again building anticipation among Cyberpunk 2077 players, teasing a mysterious announcement set for September 4th. The studio has kept details scarce, but a cryptic message shared across social media has fans buzzing about what's next for Night City.

The teaser comes in the form of a message from N.U.S.A. President Rosalind Myers, a key character from the Phantom Liberty expansion. Her statement reads: “Our great nation once again faces a cyber threat – from those who hide in the shadows, too cowardly to openly state their views, yet ready to destroy our values. I will not accept this, and I know neither will you.”

President Myers, whose storyline in Phantom Liberty saw her caught in a web of political intrigue alongside agents Solomon Reed (portrayed by Idris Elba) and Song So Mi (Minji Chang), then issues a call to action. “N.U.S.A. seeks brave netrunners willing to help defend the country. Our courageous agents work tirelessly to ensure the country's safety, maintain its dominance, and protect it from those who wish to undermine it. Now you can join the fight for freedom. Personally, I welcome anyone who believes they have the necessary qualities. Take our test, prove yourself, serve N.U.S.A.”

This provocative message has ignited a wave of speculation among the dedicated Cyberpunk 2077 community. Many fans believe the post hints at an upcoming update for the Phantom Liberty expansion. The character of So Mi, known for her ability to hack the Blackwall—a powerful barrier against rogue AI and other digital threats—quickly became a fan favorite. Players are now wondering if new missions involving her, or additional story arcs, could be on the horizon.

Other theories have also emerged. Some players suggest a new mobile game focused on netrunners could be in the works. Others envision a “New Game+” mode for Cyberpunk 2077, introducing tougher enemies and expanded gameplay options. A more practical, though less exciting, theory is that the teaser is actually a recruitment drive for cybersecurity specialists within CD Projekt RED itself, perhaps to bolster their defenses against potential hacking attacks that could disrupt development.

A full sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is considered unlikely at this stage, as a significant portion of the CD Projekt RED team is currently focused on the development of The Witcher IV.

Whatever the announcement on September 4th may be, it’s clear that CD Projekt RED is keeping the Cyberpunk 2077 universe alive and engaging for its player base. Fans should mark their calendars and stay tuned for official news. The current version of Cyberpunk 2077, along with the Phantom Liberty expansion, is available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
