Ananta Ditches Gacha for Characters, Reveals New Gameplay Trailer

Ananta Unveils Extensive Gameplay Trailer, Confirms No Gacha for Characters

NetEase Games and developer Naked Rain have released a lengthy new gameplay trailer for their upcoming free-to-play open-world RPG, Ananta. Alongside the exciting footage, the publisher confirmed a significant decision that will surely please many players: Ananta will not use a gacha system for acquiring playable characters.

Exploring a Vibrant Urban Open World

Ananta is set in a sprawling urban open world, promising a high degree of player freedom and numerous exploration opportunities. Players will navigate diverse districts, meet a cast of colorful characters, and assemble their own team for adventures. The game allows players to choose their path: confront hidden threats lurking in the shadows or dive headfirst into the city's lively neon-lit nightlife.

The new trailer seems to lean into comparisons with games like Grand Theft Auto, showcasing a sun-drenched metropolis, street brawls, car chases, and even rocket launcher action. Naked Rain has designed a flexible and dynamic combat system that encourages using environmental elements. Players can engage enemies with bare hands, various weapons, or even makeshift tools like golf clubs and badminton rackets. A unique "web-slinging" mechanic allows players to pull enemies closer and traverse the city rapidly, reminiscent of Spider-Man's movement.

Monetization Focuses on Cosmetics

In an interview with Famitsu, NetEase Games clarified that the gacha system will not be used to obtain playable characters in Ananta. Instead, all companions will be unlocked for free simply by progressing through the main story. This decision addresses a common concern among players regarding monetization in free-to-play titles.

So, how will the developers monetize Ananta? The answer is straightforward: through cosmetic items. Players can expect to purchase outfits, vehicle customization options, and decorative items for their in-game housing. This approach allows players to personalize their experience without being forced into a luck-based system to access core gameplay elements.

Global Anticipation Builds

Ananta is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices (iOS and Android). A release date has not yet been announced, but interest in the game is remarkably high, with pre-registrations already surpassing 11 million worldwide. This news of a non-gacha character system is likely to further boost its appeal among a global audience looking for a character-driven experience without the typical free-to-play monetization pitfalls.
