PlatinumGames Brings a Fresh Look to Guy Savage in Metal Gear Solid Delta
Fans anticipating the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater have an unexpected treat to look forward to: the return of the classic Guy Savage mini-game. What's even more surprising is the developer behind its revamp – none other than PlatinumGames, renowned for their work on titles like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and the Bayonetta series.
For those unfamiliar, Guy Savage was originally an obscure easter egg found in the PlayStation 2 version of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. To access this hidden gem, players needed to save their game after Snake's torture sequence in Groznyj Grad, then load that save file after a specific conversation with Para-Medic about vampires. This would trigger a nightmare sequence where Snake, as the character Guy Savage, engaged in a simple hack-and-slash mini-game. This segment was co-created by Konami veteran Shuyo Murata and was initially conceived as a demo for a larger, standalone game that ultimately never saw full production.
Now, Guy Savage is officially confirmed for Metal Gear Solid Delta. While the original method of access remains, a new, more straightforward way has been added: simply completing the game on any difficulty will unlock the mini-game. According to Konami's official website, Guy Savage returns in a "completely reimagined form that captures the essence of the original, but presents the demo in an entirely new light." The involvement of PlatinumGames suggests a potentially more polished and dynamic experience than the humble PS2 original.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to launch on August 28 for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players who pre-order the Deluxe version will gain early access, starting on August 26. The remake has already garnered attention from critics, with early reviews offering initial impressions and insights into its faithful yet updated design.
