One More Level Unveils Valor Mortis, A Dark First-Person Soulslike

Ghostrunner Creators Announce Valor Mortis

One More Level, the acclaimed studio behind the fast-paced Ghostrunner series, has officially announced their next major project: Valor Mortis. Teaming up with publisher Lyrical Games, the new title is a single-player, first-person soulslike set to launch in 2026 for PC and consoles.

Szymon Bryla, CEO of One More Level, shared insights into the studio's ambitious new direction for Valor Mortis:

With Valor Mortis, we wanted to try something new and original – a darker experience, while still offering players a true challenge. After Ghostrunner, we knew we had a foundation for creating a first-person game, but this time in the soulslike genre. At the same time, we wanted to stay true to what we do best – creating demanding games for hardcore gamers in an engaging and expansive world, showing that the studio has grown since our previous projects. Valor Mortis is a fresh, new, and original take on the genre, and we can’t wait for players to try it for themselves.

A Twisted 19th Century Europe

Players will step into the shoes of William, a soldier of Napoleon’s Grand Army, who is mysteriously brought back from the battlefield. However, the Europe he awakens to is drastically changed. A mysterious plague ravages the continent, and a strange new power flows through his body, granting him devastating abilities.

Brutal Combat and Supernatural Powers

True to the soulslike genre, every death in Valor Mortis becomes an opportunity for players to grow stronger. Combat will demand mastery of parries, dodges, and deadly finishing moves using a variety of weapons. William can also enhance his attacks and unlock new supernatural abilities to combat the terrifying enemies he faces.

The game’s setting is a dark, alternate 19th-century Europe infused with elements of dark magic. Players will navigate infected battlefields, confront monstrous creatures of Napoleon's Eternal Guard, and uncover environmental secrets that increase their chances of survival. The narrative skillfully blends real historical events with elements of horror and the supernatural, urging players to explore the world's dark corners to uncover the truth about the plague and the reasons for their own resurrection.

Platforms and Release

Valor Mortis is planned for release on PC (Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 in 2026. Fans of challenging action games and the soulslike genre should keep an eye on this unique first-person experience from the creators of Ghostrunner.
