Genshin Impact Unveils Version 6.0 'Luna I': A New Chapter Begins
HoYoverse has officially lifted the curtain on Genshin Impact's monumental Version 6.0 update, now rebranded as “Luna I: Song of the Hollow Moon: Prelude.” Set to launch on September 10th, this update marks a significant shift for the beloved open-world RPG, introducing players to the enigmatic region of Nod-Kray, raising the character level cap to 100, and showering Travelers with generous gifts in celebration of the game’s fifth anniversary. The developers shared extensive details during a recent livestream, promising a fresh experience that redefines exploration and combat.
The Version 6.0 update is historic as it introduces a new version numbering system, moving away from the familiar numerical sequence. “Luna I: Song of the Hollow Moon: Prelude” is the first in a year-long series of updates, signaling a new era for Teyvat.
Fifth Anniversary & Rewards: A Bounty for Travelers
To commemorate Genshin Impact’s fifth anniversary and the launch of the new version, HoYoverse is offering an array of exciting rewards for all players:
- A free 5-star character of choice from the Standard Banner.
- 10 Intertwined Fates via a daily login event.
- 1,600 Primogems.
- Two exclusive Nod-Kray themed gadgets delivered via in-game mail, including a unique flying couch.
- Hero’s Wit and other valuable resources.
Additionally, the first-time top-up bonus for Genesis Crystals will be reset, offering players another chance to double their purchases.
Discover the Desolate Beauty of Nod-Kray
Travelers will embark on a journey to Nod-Kray, an autonomous region in the southern part of Snezhnaya, the domain of the Cryo Archon, the Tsaritsa. Once a thriving paradise, Nod-Kray was ravaged by an Abyssal catastrophe, transforming it into a desolate wasteland. Players will reach Nod-Kray by sea from Natlan, making their first stop at the settlement of Nashgorod.
This new region is permeated by an ancient elemental power known as “Kuuvyaki,” which influences both the landscape and its inhabitants. Players can harness Kuuvyaki, embedded within plants, mechanisms, and even the terrain, to overcome exploration challenges. This power also allows Travelers to transform into unique elemental lifeforms called “Kuukhenki,” enabling swift glides through mist and traversal along special paths.
Kuuvyaki also plays a crucial role in combat, demanding new strategies and enabling unique “Moon Reactions” for certain characters. Some characters will wield a “Moon Wheel,” an artifact akin to a Vision but drawing power from three distinct moons. The moon motif is central to Nod-Kray, reflecting its mysterious and ancient history. The updated elemental reactions, now called “Moon Reactions,” hint at deeper lore, with one such reaction, Ineffa's Lunar Charge, already present in the previous version.
The primary storyline in Nod-Kray revolves around the conflict of eleven factions vying for control over the region. Players will encounter both new organizations and familiar faces like the Knights of Favonius, all pursuing the elusive “Ancient Moon Dust.” Following a letter from Grand Master Varka, players will rush to meet him in Nod-Kray.
Meanwhile, the Fatui are actively seeking the return of Columbina, formerly a Harbinger, now known as the Moon Maiden. Having mysteriously left the Fatui, she is believed to be hiding near Hiisi Island within Nod-Kray. To quickly dive into the Nod-Kray adventure, players can either complete the Mondstadt Archon Quest and reach Adventure Rank 28, or complete the Liyue Archon Quest to immediately access the new Archon Quests.
New Characters, Weapons, and Chronicle Wishes
Version 6.0 introduces exciting new characters and weapons to the game:
- Lauma (5-star Dendro Catalyst): The “Voice of the Moonlit Hymn of the Frost Moon's Children,” Lauma can trigger the new “Lunar Budding” reaction, generating a unique material called “Green Dew” that boosts the damage of all Bloom-related reactions. She possesses a deep connection with animals, capable of transforming into a half-human, half-deer form for faster movement. Available in the first half of the update.
- Nahida (5-star Dendro Catalyst): The Dendro Archon returns in a rerun banner during the first half of the update.
- Flins (5-star Electro Polearm): A member of the Lightbearers faction, Flins unleashes powerful “Lunar Charge” attacks, both single devastating strikes and rapid spear combos. An experienced Lightbearer, he hears whispers of the Wild Hunt during his explorations. Available in the second half of the update.
- Yelan (5-star Hydro Bow): The Hydro archer returns in a rerun banner during the second half of the update.
- Aino (4-star Hydro Claymore): A child prodigy and founder of the “Zing-Clack” Krumkake workshop, Aino created the robot girl Ineffa. In combat, she deploys a combat machine called the “Cooling Duck” which periodically attacks enemies with Hydro damage after being summoned by her Elemental Burst. Aino will be the first Hydro Claymore character in Genshin Impact. She will be given for free upon completing an Archon Quest.
New 5-star weapons include the Catalyst “Mirror of the Night Weaver,” which boosts Elemental Mastery, and the Polearm “Bloody Ruins,” focused on Critical Hit Rate.
A new Sumeru-themed “Chronicle Wish” banner will be available, featuring 5-star characters like Nilou, Cyno, and Al-Haitham, alongside their signature weapons, giving players another chance to acquire fan favorites from the Dendro region.
Expanded Storylines and Engaging Activities
Legend Quests in Version 6.0 will be more closely interwoven with Archon Quests, promising a more comprehensive and immersive narrative experience. Players will assist Lauma from the Frost Moon's Children against the Fatui, fight alongside Flins against the Wild Hunt, and forge new friendships in Nashgorod. The Fatui's grand plan to seize the moon's power will also take clearer shape with the appearance of Harbinger Sandrone, the Puppet.
Completing Archon Missions will grant all earned character development materials and Primogems, along with an additional bonus of 500 Primogems. Travelers will also explore mysterious mechanisms with Aino and Ineffa, and participate in a new combat event.
Katherina will offer new local legend quests, allowing players to unlock a unique avatar frame.
Groundbreaking System Enhancements and Quality-of-Life Updates
One of the most anticipated changes is the increase of the character level cap from 90 to 100. This new progression requires a resource called “Wandering Fortune,” obtained when players acquire duplicate 5-star characters beyond their C6 constellation. Essentially, each subsequent constellation past C6 for a 5-star character will convert into Wandering Fortune. One unit of Wandering Fortune allows a character to gain five levels, meaning two units are needed to reach level 100.
HoYoverse has confirmed that Wandering Fortune will be granted retroactively for all past duplicate constellations since the game's launch, a welcome announcement for long-term players. Your C6 Qiqi might finally bring some extra utility!
A new gameplay system, “The Long Path of Perfection,” is tied to Wandering Fortune. By deepening the bond with a character in your team, this system grants one unit of Wandering Fortune. Up to four additional Wandering Fortune units can be obtained annually through this method.
A new “Meeting Place” content block allows players to delve into the daily lives of new friends: listen to Lauma recount Frost Moon's Children legends, explore Aino and Ineffa’s “Zing-Clack” workshop, and uncover ancient Lightbearer stories in Flins's home. Developers state their goal is “to take these stories beyond the traditional quest format and present them to Travelers in a new way.” Moon Seals can be spent at Meeting Places to upgrade their features.
Genshin Impact will also introduce the “Astral Limit” UGC system, empowering players to create and play custom levels. “Economic simulators, party games, combat arenas, and adventures – anything you can imagine can be brought to life here,” the HoYoverse team announced.
Quality-of-life improvements include:
- Artifacts will now display locked attributes from the very beginning, saving players time and resources.
- Crafting Condensed Resin will now require 60 Original Resin instead of 40, but will grant triple rewards.
- Starting from “Luna I,” during the first week after a 5-star character’s banner launches, all talent and weapon ascension material domains will have no time limits.
Following the update, Travelers will receive a special “Travel Stories” notebook, chronicling memorable moments shared with characters. This notebook can be used at the Grand Narukami Shrine to arrange future encounters with beloved characters.
New Artifacts and What it Means for Players
Two new artifact sets, tied to Moon Reactions, will be introduced: “Night of Open Sky,” which increases Elemental Mastery, and “Serenade of the Silk Moon,” which boosts Energy Recharge.
This extensive Version 6.0 update promises to be a game-changer for Genshin Impact, offering not just a brand new region and characters, but also significant advancements in character progression, story presentation, and player engagement. With its generous anniversary gifts, innovative systems, and a fresh narrative direction, “Luna I: Song of the Hollow Moon: Prelude” is set to reinvigorate the world of Teyvat and provide countless hours of adventure for new and veteran Travelers alike.
