Funcom Unveils Extensive Content Roadmap for Dune: Awakening
Funcom, the developers behind the multiplayer survival game Dune: Awakening, have revealed their comprehensive content roadmap for the game, outlining planned updates for the coming year and beyond. This roadmap includes a mix of free content expansions and paid downloadable content (DLC).
Players can expect ongoing support, with developers committing to monthly reviews of player feedback, leading to small fixes and balance adjustments. This ensures the game evolves based on community input.
Upcoming Chapters and DLCs
The roadmap kicks off this September with the highly anticipated release of Chapter 2. While development for this chapter began even before the game's official launch, players can look forward to a wealth of new content, though it's important to note it isn't designed as an end-game expansion. Chapter 2 will feature:
- A continuation of the main storyline.
- Expanded character re-customization options.
- New random encounters and contracts.
- Additional structures within the treacherous Deep Desert.
- New archetype armor sets.
- More hairstyles and tattoos to personalize your character.
Launching alongside Chapter 2 in September is the first paid DLC, titled Lost Harvest. This expansion will introduce a new vehicle, a series of unique contracts set in distinct locations, fresh building and decoration elements for player bases, new weapon and armor skins, and additional emotes to express yourself on Arrakis.
Looking further ahead, Chapter 3 is slated for release between January and March 2026. This chapter is expected to bring significant reworks to the game's end-game content. Parallel to Chapter 3's launch, the second paid DLC, Riders of the Broken Lands, will become available, focusing on new cosmetic additions. Funcom has stated that more details on these upcoming content packs will be shared closer to their release dates.
The roadmap concludes with Chapter 4, planned for April to June 2026. This period will also see the release of the third DLC, The Water Wars, which will delve into the intense conflicts between Great Houses vying for control over Arrakis' vital polar regions.
Core Game Improvements
Beyond new content, Funcom is actively working on a variety of quality-of-life enhancements and core game improvements:
- Player Journal Improvements: The in-game journal will be expanded to provide players with more detailed information, such as who accesses chests within their base and better insights into resource usage.
- Vehicle Recovery System: A new system is in development to help players locate and retrieve lost vehicles across the vast desert landscape.
- Cobalt Paste and Vehicle Inventory: Funcom is adjusting the volume of cobalt paste and adding more inventory slots for the assault ornithopter. Additionally, a new cargo container will be introduced, which can be transported by the transport ornithopter.
- Deep Desert Resource Stations: Improvements are being made to the trial stations used for extracting resources in the Deep Desert.
- Important Event Notifications: A new service will send email notifications to players regarding important base events, allowing them to stay informed without needing to be constantly logged into the game.
Dune: Awakening is currently available on PC via Steam, featuring Russian text localization. The game has received over 50,000 player reviews, with 73% of them being positive. Console versions are planned for release next year, further expanding the game's reach to a broader audience. This detailed roadmap demonstrates Funcom's commitment to building a long-term future for their desert survival experience on Arrakis.
