Devolver Digital Unveils Extended Baby Steps Gameplay
Publisher Devolver Digital has just released a full 10-minute gameplay video for Baby Steps, the quirky 'walking simulator' from Bennett Foddy, known for his famously challenging titles like Getting Over It and the rhythm-action game Ape Out.
The core of Baby Steps gameplay revolves around manually controlling each of the clumsy protagonist's limbs. Players must navigate a picturesque, mountainous landscape, but success is far from guaranteed. The video highlights how frequently the hero stumbles, trips, falls, and tumbles down the slopes, leading to plenty of humorous moments.
Once players manage to get a feel for the game's unusual control scheme and realistic physics, their goal is to guide the hapless Nate to his destination. Along the way, players will be treated to Nate's amusing commentary and an expansive soundtrack featuring over 420 different melodies. There's also a delightful collection of quirky headwear to discover and collect throughout the journey.
Baby Steps is set to launch on September 8 and will be available on PC via Steam and PlayStation 5. The game will include Russian subtitles, among other localizations.
What This Means for Players
For fans of Bennett Foddy's distinctive approach to game design, this extended gameplay preview offers a clearer look at what to expect. Baby Steps promises to deliver the same blend of challenging mechanics and lighthearted frustration that defined his previous works. Players who embrace the game's unique control system will find a rewarding and often hilarious adventure, full of unexpected tumbles and a charming world to explore.
