Ubisoft Reports Mixed Q1 Financials
Ubisoft has released its financial report for the first quarter of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, detailing mixed results. While overall revenue came in below expectations, the company expressed satisfaction with the performance of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
Key financial figures for the period are as follows:
- Total company revenue reached €310.8 million, a 3.9% decrease compared to the previous year.
- Net bookings stood at €281.6 million, down 2.9% year-over-year.
- Digital net bookings were €250.2 million, marking a 2.7% decrease from the prior year.
- However, net sales from back catalog games showed growth, bringing in €260.4 million, an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period last year.
Despite the slight dip in overall revenue, the quarter wasn't without its bright spots. Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has met internal expectations, drawing in over five million unique players since its launch. Furthermore, Rainbow Six Siege X has received positive feedback for its updated gameplay and enhanced features, significantly boosting player engagement.
A notable challenge during the quarter involved temporary, but significant, disruptions related to microtransaction technical issues in Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft stated that these issues have since been identified and resolved. Despite this setback, the company sees significant growth potential for the game, with player activity and in-game spending showing consistent increases.
Ubisoft's Strategic Restructuring and Upcoming Content
In the report, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also touched upon the ongoing structural changes within the company. Guillemot reiterated the plan to establish independent 'creative houses' to manage different company assets. The first such 'creative house' will oversee the prominent Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six franchises, under the leadership of Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes.
Adding to the excitement for players, Guillemot confirmed the release window for the first DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. Titled 'Claws of Awaji', this expansion is slated for launch in the second quarter of the current fiscal year. If recent leaks hold true, players could see the add-on arrive as early as October 6.
Finally, Guillemot's announcement of a 'new version' of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows is particularly noteworthy. This likely points to a future port for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, expanding the game's reach to a new console generation.
Overall, while Ubisoft navigates a period of financial adjustment, the report signals strong performance for key titles and clear strategic directions for future development and content releases, promising more for players in the coming months.
