Microsoft Games Dominate PlayStation Sales in Q2 2025, Says Analyst

Microsoft Titles Top PlayStation Sales Charts in Second Quarter 2025

A significant shift in the console gaming landscape has been revealed, with Microsoft-published games making up the majority of top sellers on PlayStation during the second quarter of 2025. This striking data comes from Mat Piscatella, the Executive Director of research firm Circana, who shared insights from an upcoming larger report.

According to Piscatella, six out of the top ten best-selling games across both digital and physical formats on PlayStation, from April to July 2025, were titles from Microsoft. This includes prominent Xbox titles such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and the popular racing game Forza Horizon 5, which impressively secured the number one spot. Another analytics agency reported that Forza Horizon 5 has sold over 3 million copies on PS5 in less than three months.

Piscatella highlighted the dramatic change this signifies for the industry. “The console gaming market is wild. I’d love to show this list to someone in 2015,” he commented, emphasizing how much the competitive landscape has transformed over the past decade.

This dominance underscores Microsoft’s evolving strategy to bring its games to more platforms, a move that initially concerned some Xbox fans but appears to be paying off. This cross-platform trend continues, with the PS5 version of Hellblade II confirmed to launch on August 12. Rumors also suggest that future Microsoft titles like Gears of War: E-Day and State of Decay 3 may eventually come to Sony's consoles.

The flow of games isn't one-sided, however. Sony's popular cooperative shooter, Helldivers 2, is scheduled for release on Xbox Series consoles on August 26, though its developers have indicated it will not be joining Xbox Game Pass at this time. This growing interchange of titles between platforms ultimately benefits players, offering greater access to a wider variety of games regardless of their preferred console.
