Game Director Koshi Nakanishi recently revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2025 that the upcoming title will feature bosses, but with a deliberate shift away from the action-heavy spectacles seen in more recent installments.
Instead, players will face challenges that demand more cunning than firepower, reminiscent of the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2. Nakanishi explained, as reported by AUTOMATON, that the boss fights are designed like "puzzles," where players must expand their exploration within confined spaces and overcome obstacles through cleverness rather than brute force. This strategic emphasis on environmental interaction and problem-solving promises to deliver a more intense and classic survival horror experience.
Beyond the gameplay mechanics, Resident Evil Requiem will also focus heavily on character development, particularly for its protagonist, Grace Ashcroft. Nakanishi highlighted that Grace is not a seasoned soldier, nor is she a coward. Players will witness her transformation from a fearful individual into a capable survivor.
