Control Console Update Brings Significant Technical Improvements to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S

Remedy Announces Performance Boost for Control on Current-Gen Consoles

Fans of Remedy Entertainment's critically acclaimed paranormal action-adventure, Control, have good reason to celebrate. The studio has announced a significant technical update is on its way for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game, promising a smoother and more responsive gameplay experience.

While specific details about the patch are expected to be fully revealed on Monday, October 6th, Remedy's Communications Director, Thomas Puha, offered some insights on the ResetEra forums. Puha noted that developing this update was a challenging and time-consuming process. He highlighted the difficulties of optimizing an older title, especially given the rapid pace at which software and hardware environments evolve.

The upcoming patch is set to introduce several highly anticipated features for console players. Key among these are support for 120Hz monitors and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), which will allow for a more fluid visual experience on compatible displays. Additionally, players will gain the option to uncap the framerate in both the game's 'Quality' and 'Performance' modes. This means those who prioritize higher frame rates over graphical fidelity (or vice versa) will have more control over their gameplay experience.

Control, originally launched in 2019, has been lauded for its unique world-building, engaging story, and satisfying combat. Beyond its current-gen console iterations, the game is also available on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG, as well as PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and as a cloud version on Nintendo Switch. It is also part of the Game Pass catalog.

This update is a welcome development for players looking to revisit the Federal Bureau of Control's Oldest House with enhanced technical performance, ensuring that the game continues to shine on the latest generation of consoles.
