Last Epoch's Third Season Unleashes Dinosaurs and New Content
Just a week before its launch, Eleventh Hour Games has unveiled comprehensive details for the highly anticipated third season of their popular ARPG, Last Epoch. Titled 'Beneath Ancient Skies,' this new season is set to arrive on August 21st, a mere five months after the conclusion of Season 2, promising a wealth of fresh content and significant updates for players.
Key Additions in Beneath Ancient Skies
An Expanded Campaign: Chapter 10
The narrative of Last Epoch continues to grow with the introduction of Chapter 10. Following the defeat of Majasa, players will pick up the hunt for Apophis, embarking on an adventure that thrusts them into a prehistoric past teeming with dinosaurs. This new chapter brings 17 new campaign zones and introduces 28 new enemy types to challenge adventurers. Upon completing Chapter 10, characters will earn a permanent +1 to all their stats, providing a valuable boost for their ongoing journeys.
The Primal Hunt Activity
A brand-new activity, the Primal Hunt, offers a fresh way to engage with the world of Eterra. As players traverse the game, they may encounter mysterious rifts that lead them into hidden caves filled with perilous creatures. The ultimate challenge within these caves is the formidable Rift Beast. After vanquishing this monster, players will have the unique choice to spare one of its offspring. This spared offspring can then evolve into an even more dangerous companion, with over 60 distinct evolutions available to discover. Defeating these Rift Beasts and their evolved offspring will yield valuable rewards, including powerful items and essential crafting materials.
Upon entering a Primal Hunt cave, players will also meet a new NPC, Scarven Bloodhorn. Scarven will provide an initial introduction to this new mechanic and serve as a dedicated vendor within these unique encounters.
New Gear: Primordial Items
Season 3 introduces a new tier of gear: Primordial items. These items come in two types—Unique and Exalted—and are exceptionally powerful. Their strength is such that players can only equip one Primordial item of each type simultaneously. There are a total of 25 unique Primordial items. Of these, 22 can be purchased directly from Scarven Bloodhorn, while the remaining 3 are exclusive drops obtainable only from defeating Rift Beasts.
Content Enhancements and Rebalancing
Beyond the major additions, Eleventh Hour Games has implemented various quality-of-life improvements and enhancements across existing content, including the core campaign and the Monolith of Fate endgame system. Notably, the developers have also undertaken a significant global rebalance of skills and classes, promising a refreshed combat experience and new build possibilities for all players.
New Monolith of Fate Echo Zones
The Monolith of Fate, a key endgame activity, is expanding with six new Echo Zones. These zones draw inspiration from the newly added Chapter 10 and include:
- Serene Isles
- Night Blooming Forest
- Mushroom Caves
- Crystal Clear Lakes
- Celestial Garden
- Tidal Sands
What This Means for Players
The 'Beneath Ancient Skies' update is a substantial addition for Last Epoch, signaling Eleventh Hour Games' continued commitment to evolving the game. The introduction of Chapter 10 not only pushes the story forward into an exciting, prehistoric setting but also provides a permanent stat boost that will benefit all characters. The Primal Hunt activity adds a compelling new loop for players seeking challenges and unique rewards, with the evolving offspring offering depth and replayability. Coupled with powerful new Primordial items and a broad rebalance of classes and skills, this season promises fresh builds, new challenges, and a revitalized experience for veterans and newcomers alike. Last Epoch is currently available exclusively on PC via Steam, where it continues to boast over 100,000 'Mostly Positive' reviews.
