First Look at DOOM: The Dark Ages’ Single Story Expansion
During a recent Slayers Club Live online broadcast, id Software offered fans a tantalizing first glimpse at the upcoming downloadable content for their latest title, DOOM: The Dark Ages. The developers showcased a piece of concept art for what game director Hugo Martin confirmed will be the game's “first and last” story DLC.
The striking concept art, created by Gavin Manners, paints an unusual picture of Hell. It appears the lords of the underworld are experiencing some severe heating issues, as the infernal landscape is depicted as frozen solid. Center stage, as always, is the iconic Doom Slayer, poised to unleash his trademark brutality upon his enemies, even in this chilling new environment.
While the existence of a DLC was previously hinted at with the announcement of the Premium Edition for The Dark Ages, id Software has kept details under wraps until now. Currently, the unnamed expansion does not have a release date. However, Martin strongly suggested that a full presentation for the DLC is likely planned for QuakeCon 2025, which is set to take place from August 7th to 10th. He teased that following the festival, content creators would have “new material to discuss,” a clear nod to a major reveal.
DOOM: The Dark Ages is already available on PC via Steam, Microsoft Store, and Battle.net, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is also included with Xbox Game Pass. The game has been well-received by players, boasting an 86% positive rating on Steam based on over 17,000 user reviews.
This single story DLC is significant for players, as it promises to be the definitive expansion for DOOM: The Dark Ages. Fans can look forward to what appears to be a unique, frozen twist on the series' signature demonic combat. With QuakeCon 2025 now on the horizon, the wait begins for more concrete details about the Doom Slayer's chilling new adventure.
