Hideo Kojima Marks 62nd Birthday, Reveals Death Stranding 3 Concept

Hideo Kojima Celebrates 62nd Birthday, Looks to the Future of Gaming

Legendary game designer Hideo Kojima recently celebrated his 62nd birthday, taking to X (formerly Twitter) to thank fans for their well wishes and art. In a heartfelt message, Kojima expressed his commitment to continue creating projects “as long as I live,” emphasizing a healthy approach to his work.

“Today, I turned 62 years old. I received many birthday messages, illustrations, etc. from all over the world. Thank you so much. I intend to continue creating things for as long as I live. My stance on 'creation' is to 'not overwork' and to 'take it easy,' and I will continue to… I will continue to do my best even after 60. I will take care of my health every day. Thank you for your continued support,” Kojima stated.

Reflecting on his health and age, Kojima shared that a serious illness during the pandemic made him realize how much people anticipated new projects from him, particularly those reminiscent of his iconic Metal Gear series. This realization became a driving force behind his upcoming game, Physint, a spy action title that aims to deliver a familiar yet fresh experience.

Beyond gaming, Kojima also confirmed his long-standing ambition to direct a film, a project he hopes to tackle approximately five to six years from now, following the release of Physint. Throughout his decades-long career, beginning in the mid-1980s, Kojima has left an indelible mark on the video game industry, constantly experimenting and striving for unique creative endeavors.

Fans Pour Out Support as Death Stranding 3 Concept is Revealed

Hundreds of fans flooded social media with birthday greetings, thanking Kojima for his contributions to games like Metal Gear and Death Stranding, and wishing him a long, productive life. Many expressed deep gratitude for how his work has inspired and influenced them over the years, appreciating his continued dedication to the craft.

In a surprising revelation, Kojima also offered a glimpse into the future of the Death Stranding franchise. He confirmed that he has already conceptualized a third installment but does not intend to personally direct its development. During the Death Stranding 2 World Strand Tour, he explained that he views the ending of the second game as a definitive conclusion to the narrative arcs of the first two entries.

“I am not planning to do that [Death Stranding 3] at the moment. Because the ending of Death Stranding 2 was my finale of 1 and 2. But I already wrote the concept of DS3…,” Kojima shared, hinting that the idea for a continuation exists in his archives. He expressed hope that someone else might eventually bring his vision for Death Stranding 3 to life. While there's no immediate timeline or guarantee that the game will be made, Kojima’s comments offer a spark of hope for fans eager to see where the unique franchise could go next, even if under a different creative lead.

This news means that while Kojima remains committed to his groundbreaking work, his focus is shifting towards new horizons with Physint and his cinematic aspirations. For Death Stranding fans, the existence of a concept for a third game, even if not directly helmed by Kojima, ensures the potential for the series to continue its strange and wonderful journey in the gaming world.
