Atari Acquires Five Ubisoft Games, Plans Modern Revivals and Remasters

Atari Secures Rights to Five Ubisoft Titles, Eyes Modern Re-releases and Remasters

In a significant move for gaming enthusiasts, Atari has announced a strategic agreement with Ubisoft, acquiring the rights to five distinct and often beloved titles from the French publisher. The goal of this deal is to breathe new life into these games, adapting them for contemporary platforms and introducing them to both long-time fans and a fresh generation of players.

The acquired games include the third-person survival horror Cold Fear, the post-apocalyptic adventure I Am Alive, the rhythmic shooter Child of Eden, and the charming exploration platformers Grow Home and its sequel, Grow Up.

Deborah Papiernik, Atari’s Vice President of New Business, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition. "This step will allow fans to relive familiar stories and newcomers to discover them for the first time," she stated. "Atari possesses a rich gaming heritage and deeply values these classic projects. We are excited to see how they will evolve and resonate with gamers in new, meaningful ways."

Atari plans to publish these games under its own label, intending to deliver updated formats, introduce new content, and broaden their distribution channels. The company also hinted at the future possibility of full remasters and additional materials to further engage a wider audience.

Wade Rosen, CEO of Atari, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the shared legacy of both companies. "Ubisoft and Atari have a rich heritage in creating worlds that gamers can fall in love with – games that resonate with generations of players not only through their gameplay but also through the emotions they evoke," Rosen commented. "We are thrilled to reintroduce these projects, as well as explore opportunities to expand and develop these franchises."

A Look at the Acquired Titles:

  • Cold Fear (2005): Originally a third-person horror game released on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2. It is currently available on Steam.
  • I Am Alive (2012): A challenging survival adventure title that first appeared on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. This game is also available on Steam.
  • Child of Eden (2011): A unique musical shooter from Q Entertainment, launched for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
  • Grow Home (2015): A delightful adventure platformer developed by Ubisoft Reflections, initially released on PC (Steam) and later on PlayStation.
  • Grow Up (2016): The direct sequel to Grow Home, available on PC (Steam), Xbox, and PlayStation.

For players, this acquisition means a renewed opportunity to experience some memorable titles that might have been overlooked or difficult to access. Whether it's revisiting the chilling depths of Cold Fear or navigating the desperate world of I Am Alive, Atari’s commitment promises to bring these games back into the spotlight with modern touches, ensuring their legacy continues for years to come.
